UAE: Discovering An Archaeological Treasure, Dating Back To The Third Century BC

An Emirati mission discovered an archaeological treasure at the site of Mleiha in Sharjah, dating back to the third century BC.

Sharjah Archaeology Authority revealed that its local mission found an old jar filled with many coins that were minted in this ancient part at the site of Mleiha in the period of the third century BC, where they minted their own coins inspired by the coins of Alexander and his Seleucid successors

The first versions of these coins bore the icons of that period (Heraclius' head) represented by Alexander the Great and the Greek god Zeus sitting on his throne in addition to the word Alexander, but with the passage of time these models were changed and the word (Abel) written in Aramaic letters was added instead of the Greek word Alexander..

The Authority indicated that this group is the largest that has been discovered in the Arabian Gulf region, as such a number has not been recorded in the past.
