Barakah ... The UAE achievement in clean energy
The UAE first announced its nuclear energy policy in April 2008 by issuing a policy document for assessing and developing a program for peaceful nuclear energy.
The Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Power Plants Project, located in the Al Dhafra region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, is considered one of the largest in the world, as it included building 4 identical plants simultaneously.
The project also bears a global superiority in terms of being the first new peaceful nuclear energy projects in the world that start the operational phase 24 years ago.
Emirati competencies play a pivotal role in the development of the UAE's peaceful nuclear program, as 120 Emirati engineers participated directly in the construction and completion phase of the first plant in Barakah. This means that the project included the first Emirati group specialized in the field of peaceful nuclear energy in the country's history.
By the beginning of this year, the first plant reactor in the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Power Plant reached 100% of its production capacity. This achievement means that the first plant in Barakah produces 1,400 megawatts, making it the largest single source of electric power in the UAE, according to the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation.
Barakah stations have become the largest source of environmentally friendly base load electricity in the UAE, capable of providing a steady, reliable and sustainable supply of energy around the clock.
The completion of the commercial operation of the first Al-Barakah nuclear plant is the most important to date in the course of the UAE's peaceful nuclear program. With this achievement, the UAE has become the first in the Arab world and the thirty-third in the world to succeed in developing nuclear power plants to produce electricity in a safe, reliable and environmentally friendly manner.
