The UAE's national effort in facing the potential effects of Climate Change

The UAE has taken various strategies and projects at the national, regional and international levels to face the challenges of climate change facing the world, as it realized early on the seriousness of the economic, social and environmental consequences of these changes.

In 2017, the UAE launched a National Climate Change Plan 2050. It focuses on supporting national activities and initiatives that aim to meet climate challenges, by achieving three goals:

* Managing greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining sustainable economic growth in the country,

* Reduce risks and improve resilience to climate change,

* And finally, enhancing economic diversification through the application of innovative solutions in cooperation with the private sector.

In addition to its efforts in international cooperation, the UAE plays a fundamental role in the world economy as a supplier of fossil fuels, which makes it an important supporter in adopting solutions that contribute to reducing emissions while maintaining the continuity of supplying the world with the necessary energy. From that principle, the UAE has contributed to many international agreements to combat climate change out of its global responsibility and full awareness of the dangers of a lack of response to this issue. The UAE has also intensified its international roles in curbing climate change, as it is a member of a group of agencies and organizations concerned with climate change and security, including the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the World Energy Council and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, in which the country is committed to reducing its carbon emissions.

The UAE is looking forward to providing a role model for energy and environmental management through initiatives and programs that open new horizons for renewable energy and energy efficiency, and to enable everyone to preserve the environment and resist climate change. Among these initiatives, the UAE will host the "Regional Climate Week 2022". The Regional Climate Week is the first of its kind in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, between 2 and 3 March 2022. This comes during the organization of "Expo 2020 Dubai", with the aim of strengthening the momentum of climate action in the Middle East and North Africa.

This upcoming event will represent an exceptional platform to follow the green recovery path and discuss the best ways to develop low-carbon economies and limit the phenomenon of climate change, especially in conjunction with the start of overcoming the global crisis caused by the spread of "Covid-19"
