Combating terrorism and rejecting extremism and violence; A file that brings the UAE and Egypt together and is related to their respective politics in political, diplomatic and religious work.
Indeed, Egypt and the UAE are two pioneering countries in this field, especially with the confusion that emerged from extremist groups, terrorism and religion-trading, which in their behavior are between Islam, violence, hatred and rejection of the other.
The official statements of the leaderships of the two countries affirm their keenness to fight these groups and combat their destructive ideas.
Cairo and Abu Dhabi have moved towards focusing on renewing the religious discourse, and the true understanding of religion away from the factors of exaggeration and militancy that often end in the path that leads to hatred and violence.
They stressed the importance of the role of education and the promotion of tolerance and happiness, as well as the participation of young people and the positive role of the family, women, culture and religious moderation, within the framework of official initiatives in the two countries.
In this context, Al-Azhar launched several initiatives, most notably the establishment of the Interfaith Dialogue Center in 2015.
In the context of combating extremist ideology as well, the Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa established the Observatory for Takfiri Fatwas and Hardline Opinions, to respond to fatwas from extremist groups that distort the image and tolerance of Islam.
Numerous seminars and conferences were also organized to consolidate the concepts of tolerance and peace among youth. The Sheikh of Al-Azhar launched the "Al-Azhar Brings Us Together" initiative and many others.
As for the UAE, in 2016, it announced the establishment of the first Ministry of Tolerance in the world, and issued an anti-discrimination and hatred law that criminalizes acts related to contempt for religions and their sanctities.
It launched a number of effective initiatives in the field of promoting dialogue between peoples and religions, such as the "National Program for Tolerance", "Mohammed Bin Rashid Tolerance Award" and the "International Institute for Tolerance", in addition to establishing several centers aimed at combating extremism.
The UAE's declaration of 2019, the Year of Tolerance, reinforces the fact that the country is a global capital for tolerance, which rejects violence, hatred and intolerance.
